Defense led the JV boys basketball team to win against Roland-Story on Friday, November 30.  Momentum was a big factor for the Cubs, especially early in the first quarter. The squad jumped out to a 10-0 lead and kept that momentum the rest of the game. The team led most of the game and didn’t let Roland-Story come closer than nine points. Along with being in command most of the game, the team was able to make their defense better from the past game and that helped them win by a score of 43-32.

“We had a lot shots that normally fall that didn’t, so once the shots start falling I think our confidence will grow each game,” said Coach Greg Baethke.

As a team, some improvements they want to make are executing set plays and making the offense more fluid. It was a struggle during the game to put the ball in the basket, but with more confidence and practice the team hopes to become confident in other areas as well.

“Our defense improved a great deal from the first game. We still have some defensive adjustments to make, but I feel our defense will continue to get better as the season goes,” said Coach Baethke.

The Cubs were led by Chase Lycke, Ayden Rhodes and Caden Jones, who all had nine points on the night and Henry Nelson who had eight. Henry Nelson and Myleek Wilkerson also led their team with eight rebounds each.

The team’s record is now 2-0 and, they are hoping to increase their winning record. The Cubs play their next game at Saydel on Tuesday, December 4.
