The varsity boys basketball team came out with a win on November 26 against Grundy Center. The first quarter was close, but the Cubs were able to pull head early in the second quarter and stay ahead by a significant amount the rest of the game to win 85-50.

The starters included Jacob Sanders, Brayden Bottorf, Devin See, Kody Kruschwitz, and Tyler Sansgaard. Leading the Cubs was junior Kody Kruschwitz with 21 points and three steals on the night.

Playing the first game of the season had the Cubs concerned about being worn out, but they were able to keep pressure on the Spartans the whole game which helped them a lot over the course of the night.

Early in the game, there was a lot of pressure as well, causing the squad to make mistakes. Putting in quick and easy baskets started to create confidence, though, and also caused more stress on Grundy Center.

“I think we shared the ball really well, and we also did a really good job at staying in control on offense. We tried so hard to play fast at the beginning of game which sped our play up too much. After we got over that, putting in baskets was easy,” said Coach Tyler Struck.

The Cubs play their next game against North Polk in Alleman on Tuesday, December 11.
