The 8th grade girls basketball team ended their season on a very high note on December 20 against Roland-Story. The A team lost by seven points the last time they played the Norse, but came out with a 29-19 final score this time.

The A team was able to outscore Roland-Story in every single quarter. Starting in the second quarter, the team was able to defensively steal the ball and score, which got them ahead.

“This was by far the best game played all year, which made it a really awesome way to end the season with a ton of positives,” said Coach Cary Thompson.

Avery Hinson led the team with 19 points, which was a season high for any of the girls individually. Bridget Cahill had eight points on the night as well. Paige Handsaker and Kaleigh Groat helped the team out a lot on the defensive end and had outstanding nights in their positions.

The B team played later in the night and only played the game with eight players, as they were very low numbers as the season concluded due to injuries and other reasons. They also only played one half and ended the night with a 8-5 win.

Kaleigh Groat had four points on the night, and Emma Depenning and Bridget Cahill both had two. Chloe Purser had outstanding outside defense, and Sonya Pritchard dominated both teams with rebounds.

This game concludes the season for the 8th grade girls basketball team. The A team ended their season with a 3-7 record, and the B team ended with a 4-6 record. Last year, the girls only won one single game and were glad to see much improvement over the past year. Coach Thompson would like to thank the girls for their hard work and great attitudes, and he would also like to thank the parents for all their support throughout the season.
