1.31 8th Grade Boys Basketball vs North Polk

The Nevada 8th grade boys basketball A team lost to North Polk, 10-41, on Thursday, January 31st, at home.

The Cubs played a tough, undefeated North Polk team close in the first half.

“If a couple more shots had gone in, it could have been a tied game at half,” said Coach Brook Thompson. “During the second half we struggled offensively and gave up some easy buckets.”

Thompson is looking to improve on transition defense and attacking the basket before the next game.

Leading scorers consisted of Karter Beving with six and Carson Mather with four.


The Nevada 8th grade boys basketball B team lost to North Polk, 17-53, on Thursday, January 31st, at home.

The Cubs had a tough game with a very good and competitive team to go against.

“We need to improve on defensive communication,” said Coach Thompson.

Thompson also thought that Noah Widen stood out with his post moves and how well he finished around the rim. Leading scorers were Noah Widen with six and Mazy Hanson with four.


The Nevada 8th grade boys basketball C team lost to North Polk, 11-16, on Thursday, January 31st, at home.

The Cubs knew they had a tough North Polk team coming into this game. The battle between the two teams was very well fought, with both teams earning each bucket they got.

“We were playing great defense and not allowing them to get too far ahead of us,” said Coach Thompson.

Kent Sponseller led scorers with four, and Sam Betting and Chazz Hayes each also had a bucket.

The Cubs’ next game is February 4th, against Roland Story, at Roland Story.
