The varsity girls basketball team lost their first round regional game to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 36-50, on Saturday night, February 9th, in Clarion.

The Cubs had an important game with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows that night because it was regionals, but the Cubs couldn’t stop certain Cowboy players for which hurt them. At the end of the first half, the Cowboys had a bit of a lead on the Cubs.

“I thought we did a good job matching their tempo in the first quarter. But during the second quarter, we had too many mistakes that took away opportunities for us to score,” said Coach Jordan Bentley.

Starting off the second half, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows came out storming and started to sneak past the Cubs.

“We got out to a slow offensive start in the second half, and the girls kept fighting like they have all year, but in the end we need to hit more shots,” said Bentley.

Leading scorers were Kacie Rewerts with 12 and Addi Vorm with nine for the Cubs. Other scorers in this game were Riley Mailey with seven and Amanda Fortman with four.

The Nevada Cubs varsity girls basketball team ended their season with a record of 8-14.

Coach Bentley wanted to add a couple things about the overall season: “This was a great year for us with a lot to build on going into next season. I want to thank our seniors for everything they have done for the program over the last four years.”
