2.21 7th Boys Basketball vs North Polk

The 7th grade boys basketball A team lost to North Polk, 19-31, on Thursday, February 21st, at home. It was the Cubs’ second to last game of the season.

The Cubs started off slow with a 0-9 deficit to end the first quarter. They followed that slow start and took it into the second quarter where they were down 0-22.

“They showed a lot of great character by keeping their heads in the game and not giving up,” said Coach Cary Thompson. “I really liked the plays that they made no matter the score.”

In the third quarter, the Cubs started off with some good shots to get them on the board, but the Cubs did a great job coming out in the second half showing some great effort. In the fourth quarter they got outscored, losing the game 12-50. They just couldn’t stop certain players which led to North Polk getting easy buckets.

Will Palmer led scorers with six, and Jacob Khounsourath and Kyle Kingsbury each had three.

The Cubs ended their season with a 2-7 record

The 7th grade boys basketball B team lost to North Polk, 23-26, on Thursday, February 21st, at home. The Cubs had a strong game against the Comets. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 2-2, but in the second quarter is where the Cubs’ showed that they could stick with the Comets by keeping them close, 8-12.

“I felt like we took smart shots and played good defense,” said Jacob Khounsourath. “In the third quarter they outscored us 14-22, than again in the fourth 23-26.”

Leading scorers were Will Bauman with three, Jackson Reid, Drew Hillman, Nick Larson, Ian Thomas, Jacob Khounsourath, and Alec Higgins each had a bucket.

The Cubs ended their season with a record of 4-5 on the year.
