On Thursday, March 28, the Nevada girls track team competed in a girls only meet hosted by Dallas Center Grimes. This was the girls’ first outdoor meet of the season, and their third meet overall. Although DCG did not keep team scoring, the athletes still got a great chance to compete early on in the season.

With athletes in eight open running events, seven relays, and four field events, the girls had a busy night, and competed well.

Nevada’s individual sprint athletes placed well with Hannah Thomsen and Catelyn Sharp placing eighth and ninth in the 100 meter dash with times of 14.02 for both girls. Other 100 meter dash participants were Tessa Borwick running a time of 14.19, Emily Plate running a time of 14.20, Shelbi Hazlitt running 14.40, Madison Stevens running 14.88, Jaylyn Schakel running 15.35, Rebecca Harwell running 15.44, Katelyn Khounsourath running 15.48, Alexis Bartmess running 15.56, and Ellie Gray running 15.82.

Nevada had several competitors competing in the open 200 meter dash as well. Shelbi Hazlitt ran a time of  29.93, Eleanor Elliott-Rude ran 32.59, Lesly Abarca ran a time of 32.87, Katelyn Khounsorath ran a 32.97, Ellie Gray ran a time of 33.63, Rebecca Harwell ran a 34.04, and Alexis Bartmess ran a time of 35.06.

Elie Thun and Briar Crain were Nevada’s competitors in the 400 meter dash. They ran times of 1:19 and 1:25 respectively.

In the open 800, Gabby Sampson ran a time of 2:58, Elie Tuhn ran a time of 2:59, Ryanne Barker ran a 3:22, and Briar Crain followed with a time of 3:32.

In the 1500 meter run, Kacie Rewerts continued to shine, getting second place with a time of 5:19.94. Eliana Hornbuckle also ran very well for the Cubs, placing ninth with a time of 5:45.

Rewerts and Hornbuckle both competed in the 3000 meter run for the Cubs again, and both ran very well. Kacie placed first with a time of 11:02 and Eliana placed fourth with a time of 12:10. Freshman Elie Tuhn also ran a very good race and placed fifth with a time of 12:44.

Samara Sharp placed 11th for the Cubs in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.48, and Chastity Scott ran a time of 23.67.

Nevada’s relays ran well as well: the Cubs’ 4×100 shuttle hurdle placed fourth overall with a time of 1.24.27.

The 4×100 placed third overall with a time of 54.59, and the 4×200 placed sixth overall with a time of 2:16.

The 800 meter sprint medley team placed well with a time of 2:02, winning the race overall.

Nevada’s 4×400 meter relay placed sixth with a time of 5:15, and finally the 4×800 meter relay placed fifth with a time of 12:01.

Nevada’s field athletes performed well as well, with athletes in shot, disc, high, and long jump.

Addi Vorm, Bailey Crain, Stephanie Alfaro, and Madison McGaffin were Nevada’s throwers. Vorm placed first overall in the discus with a throw of 103-04, and Crain threw a 72-01.

In the shot put, Vorm placed third overall with a throw of 31-10. McGaffin threw 26-1, Crain threw 25-01, and Alfaro threw 19-06.

For the jumping field events, Eleanor Elliot-Rude, Shelbi Hazlitt, Taylor Conrad, Alexis Bartmess, and Jaylyn Shackel competed for Nevada.

Bartmess and Hazlitt both jumped four feet for the high jump.

In the long jump, Elliot-Rude jumped 13-10, Conrad jumped 13-05, and Shackel jumped 12-05.
