The varsity girls golf team placed second, with a 402, on Monday, May 13th, at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.

This meet at Otter Creek was played against very tough and good quality teams, including Grinnell who is ranked third in the state. But it was a great experience for the girls because this course also hosts the state golf meet. In the end Nevada was within 26 strokes of first place which is decent considering the tough competition.

“It is great motivation for us going into regionals considering Grinnell won by 49 strokes on Saturday, but we were able to improve and come within 26 strokes the following Monday,” said Coach Mike Lawler.  “It was also good to play not in wind chills below 30 and to not be raining on us considering most meets were played like that.”

Emma Griffin was runner-up with a 93. Other scorers were Ashlynn Sporrer with a 98, Kelby Rewerts with a 105, Caroline Ausman with a 106, and Grace Cahill with a 110.

The Cubs’ next meet is the Regionals meet on Monday, May 20th, at Carroll.
