Coach Ted Johnson is the head varsity girls track coach again this year. Aside from track he also coached cross country this year. Coach Johnson has been coaching for 18 years. He has coached a variety of sports from boys basketball to volleyball. He also participated in football, basketball, and track. Besides coaching Coach Johnson is currently a high school social studies teacher who teaches Economics, U.S. History and AP U.S. History.

Coach Johnson has many reasons for coaching, but his favorite is seeing the progress athletes can make, and the excitement of competition on meet day. Coach Johnson’s coaching philosophy is  “everyone that goes out for a sport has an equal chance of improving and being great at that sport.”

He holds everyone at the same high degree of work ethic and expects nothing more than their best effort everyday.  It takes mental discipline to work harder than the day before and to go the extra mile, even in the offseason, to be the best athlete you can be.  He expects his athletes to be leaders on and off the track and wants each of his athletes to show respect to all at all times not just to their team but to their school and community as well.

“Every time we compete we represent our town of Nevada and want to represent it in a good light,” said Coach Johnson. “As a coach, I want to show the same respect and provide positive examples of leadership to inspire my athletes not just in track but also in life.”

Finally, his goals for the season are to win a meet and place in the top three at every competition. Every time they compete, he wants the athletes to strive for their personal best time, throw or jump and to have fun.
